12239 Pte Albert Bickle, 2nd Bn East Lancashire Regt.
Living on Neptune Street, Burnley at the time of his enlistment in August 1914, Albert was an ex-soldier who had seen prior service in the KSLI before becoming time-expired. He re-enlisted, in Burnley, upon the outbreak of war into the East Lancashire Regiment. After transfer to the 2nd Battalion, Albert was sent overseas on 3 February 1915 and he joined his battalion in holding the sector near Neuve Chapelle. Just over a month after arriving in France, Albert was killed in action during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle on 12 March 1915 at the age of 32. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
