18 March 1915 Pte Alexander Burrows

18 March 1915 Pte Alexander Burrows2282 Pte Alexander Burrows, 2nd Bn Coldstream Guards.

Originally enlisting into the Coldstream Guards as far back as 1898, Alexander was a reservist (and landlord of the Cross Gates Inn in Burnley) in August, 1914. Recalled to the colours immediately upon the outbreak of war, he landed in France on 30 August 1914 and saw action in the Battles on the Marne, the Aisne, First Ypres and Cuinchy before being wounded during the relief of the 3rd Battalion at Givenchy. Alexander died of these wounds whilst in transit to a CCS and is now buried in Bethune Town Cemetery.
