A farmer from Hebersberg, Lorenz had served at the front since April 1915. Seeing action at Lubaczow and Lemberg, he then fought in Alsace and the Battle of the Somme before being sent to Romania. In October 1917, he was back on the Western Front and participated in the latter stages of Third Ypres before falling to a gunshot wound to the head in the Battle of Armentieres on 12 April 1918. A recipient of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Military Merit Cross, Lorenz was 24 years of age when he died. Although given a ‘soldier's burial' in April 1918, his present grave location is unknown.
