Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 15 May 1883, George was a labourer by trade. Having seen prior service in the Militia, he enlisted into the CEF on 20 March 1915 and joined his battalion in the Ploegsteert sector in the latter part of this same year. Serving in Belgian Flanders throughout his service, George's battalion moved into the front line trenches at Mt Sorrel on 7 April 1916. From that date up to the 14th, they suffered from (according to the Bn War Diary) ‘desultory bombardments' in this sector. George was killed during one of these bombardments on 14 April and he is now buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground near Zillebeke.
