1261 Pte George Grozier Mitchell, PPCLI.
Born at Kirkintilloch, Scotland on 25 October 1887, George served for seven years in the Highland Light Infantry (seeing service in India for some of that time, for which he earned the IGS medal) before emigrating to Ontario, Canada where he was employed as a moulder. He enlisted into the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 26 August 1914 at Ottawa and he found himself, via the UK, serving in France and Flanders with ‘C' Coy by the summer of 1915. George was killed by shellfire on 15 April 1916 whilst manning the line in the Hooge sector of the Ypres Salient and he is now buried in the Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Ypres.
