Wehrmann Johann Scherer, Jäger-Regiment Nr 3.
From Moosberg in Bavaria, 40 year old Johann was called to active front-line service in 1917. Seeing action at Bukovina, he served in the Carpathian mountains and Italy before being sent to serve on the Western Front in early 1918. He was injured whilst undergoing ‘acclimatisation' training in the lines in Alsace and died shortly afterwards on 17 April 1918 after his unit had departed for the Somme/Aisne front. He is now buried in the German Military Cemetery at Cernay, Alsace (Block 5, Grave 811).
