23 May 1918 Pte Elzie LewisPte Elzie Lewis, Co L, 9th Infantry Regt, US Army.

Born at Madison, Indiana on 10 December 1888, Elzie was a tinner in civilian life. He entered service at Elk City, Oklahoma on 19 December 1917 and received his training at Camp Travis, Texas. Assigned to the 9th Infantry of the 2nd Division, he sailed for service in France in February 1918 and , after seeing service in Lorraine and the Aisne, he was killed in action on 23 May 1918. Originally buried in 'American Cemetery No 636' at Bony, Aisne (Row 7, plot 4, grave 179), Elzie's body was repatriated to Indiana post-war.
