24 May 1915 Pte Alexander Macdougall Hunter

24 May 1915 Pte Alexander Macdougall Hunter13746 Pte Alexander Macdougall Hunter, 5th Bn CEF.

Born at Barvas, Lewis, Scotland on 10 January 1890, Alexander was a farmer living in Saskatchewan, Canada at the time of his enlistment. Enlisting at Valcartier on 17 September 1914, he travelled to the UK to continue his training in October 1914. Arriving in France in February 1915, he was one of 272 casualties within his unit following a large scale German assault on his positions near Festubert in the early hours of 24 May 1915. Alex has no known grave and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
