From Windach near Moorenweiss, Bavaria, August was born on 7 August 1890 and, in civilian life, he was an accountant. He had served throughout the war and was a holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Military Merit Cross 3rd Class before being promoted to Acting Officer as a reward for distinguished service in the field. He was severely wounded in France on 1 June 1918 and died of these injuries later that day. August's body was repatriated to Windach where he is buried to this day.
