Comdt Marius Elie Remy Fourquet, 99e Régiment d'Infanterie.
Born at Soyans (Ardeche) on 24 November 1877, Marius received his mobilisation orders on 1 August 1914 and began the war as a Lieutenant in the 4th Company of his regiment. Following action in the Vosges, he was made commander of the 2nd Company before receiving his captaincy in September 1914. A year later, following the battles in the Champagne, Marius was again promoted and given command of the 1st battalion of the 99th Regiment - a position he held from October 1915, through the battles of Verdun and the Chemin des Dames, and through to his death. He was severely wounded at Sézanne (Marne) on 10 June 1918 and died soon afterwards.Grave location unknown, but possibly repatriated to Soyans where he is named on the local war memorial.
