15 June 1915 Pte Harold Evans Gilroy

15 June 1915 Pte Harold Evans Gilroy6215 Pte Harold Evans Gilroy, 1st Bn CEF.

Enlisting in Ontario in September 1914, Harold set sail on board the Laurentic. He was bound for the UK where he arrived on 14 October 1914. After training (mainly on Salisbury Plain) for several months, he was sent to France in February 1915 and took part in actions during Second Ypres and at Festubert. He was killed in action during an attack at Givenchy during the afternoon of 15 June 1915 and, having no known grave is, therefore, commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
