15561 Pte James Richard Burrows, 11th Bn East Lancashire Regiment.
A weaver at Walton's Mill, Northbridge ,Burnley, Richard enlisted into the East Lancs Regiment in Burnley in September 1914. An original member of the ‘Burnley Pals', he served in Egypt before arriving in France in March 1916. Returned from five days leave in early June 1916, he was wounded by a shell and then shot whilst attempting to rescue a wounded comrade in the area of ‘Warley Street' to ‘Nairne Street' in the Colincamps sector. Mortally wounded himself, James died in a Field Ambulance at Couin on 22 June 1916 at the age of 25. He is buried in Couin British Cemetery.
