24 June 1916 Dvr Frederick Bevan

24 June 1916 Dvr Frederick Bevan91785 Dvr Frederick Bevan, Driver, 91785, ‘A' Bty, 66 Bde RFA.

Born at Neyland, Pembrokeshire, Frederick was a locomotive engine cleaner in civilian life. He enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery at Haverfordwest and, after training, he was posted to the 66th Brigade (13th (Western) Division). Arriving at Alexandria (Egypt) on 26 June 1915, he saw service on the Gallipoli penisular, and a spell on the Suez defences, before moving to Mesopotamia. He took part in the attempts to relieve Kut, but Frederick died of disease in Kut on 24 June 1916. He is buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
