37749 Pte Alfred Cronshaw, 2nd Bn East Lancashire Regiment.
Living at 2 Wellhouse Street, Burnley at the time of his enlistment, Albert was a paper-mill employee (engaged as a paper-reel man) in civilian life. He received his call-up in March 1917 and, after a short period of training, he was in France by the end of May. Moving into the Ypres Salient at the beginning of June 1917, Alfred was seriously wounded in the head near Zouave Wood on 21 June and evacuated via the 5th Canadian CCS to No 25 General Hospital at Dannes-Camiers where he died on 26 June 1917. He was 27 years of age and he now lies buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
