6 July 1918 Landsturmann Franz MayerthalerLandsturmann Franz Mayerthaler, Kgl Bay 16 Inf-Regt ‘Großherzog Ferdinand von Toskana'.

From Freising, Bavaria, Franz had seen service on the Somme, the Carpathians and at Third Ypres (Passchendaele) - where he was to gain the Iron Cross 2nd Class - before taking part in actions on the Aisne front during the Spring offensives of 1918. He was killed in action near Oulchy on 6 July 1918 at the age of 37 and is now buried in the German military cemetery at Sapignies (Block 2 , grave 120).
