9 July 1918 Inf Lorenz Goldes

9 July 1918 Inf Lorenz GoldesInf Lorenz Goldes, Kgl Bay 9 Inf-Regt ‘Wrede'.

Born at Bergen near Moosberg in 1890, Lorenz was a recalled reservist of August 1914. He saw active service throughout the war on the Western Front and was a participant in the Frontiers battles of 1914 along with the First Battle of Ypres of the same year. He fought in the Second Battle of Artois and at Loos in 1915, and on the Somme in 1916. 1917 saw him move to Flanders (and further action at Messines and Third Ypres) where he remained in the vicinity of Kemmel/Armentieres until his death in action on 9 July 1918. Lorenz is now buried in the German Military Cemetery of Sailly-sur-la-Lys (Block 7, grave 625).
