Lieutenant James Drue Cook, 107 Sqdn RAF.
Born at Kirkwall on 13 April 1894, James studied at the University of Toronto where he gained a BASc in Civil Engineering before being employed by the Turner Construction Company, New York. On 17 July 1917 he joined the Royal Flying Corps and, after training in Canada and Texas, he was sent to the UK on 23 January 1918. In June 1918, James joined the 107th Squadron, RAF and saw initial service on the Belgian coast. On 11 July 1918, he was reported missing while flying over the lines. German sources later stated that he had been killed in action on that day and buried at Freyennes. He is now buried in the allied section of the communal cemetery extension at Tournai.
