1122 Caporal Pierre Godinaud, 344e RI.
From Les Eglisottes in the Gironde, Pierre was born on 29 August 1880. Called up from the Army reserve on 12 August 1914, Pierre spent most of the year 1915 in routine trench-holding operations before being heavily involved for several months in the battle of Verdun in 1916. His regiment was on the Chemin des Dames by 13 July 1917 and, whilst preparing for an assault the following day, Pierre was severely wounded in the front-line trench and evacuated. He died of wounds in Field Ambulance 5/3 at Longueval, Aisne later that day and is now buried in Soupir Nr 2 French Cemetery (grave number 148).
