From Moosberg, Bartholomäus was a holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Military Merit cross. A landsturmann at the beginning of the war, he was killed in action in the Champagne actions of 14 July 1918. Bartholomäus was 33 years of age when he died and he is now buried in the German Cemetery at Mont-St-Rémy (Block 1 Grave 204).
