Marsouin 2e Cl Francois ‘Louis' Monat, 6e Regiment d'Infanterie Coloniale.
Born at Roanne, Loire on 17 August 1887, Francois was, at the time of his recall to arms, living at nearby Renaison. Having seen his original compulsory military service in the 16 RI (ended 1910), he was mobilised in August 1914 into the 6 RIC with whom he saw action at Morhange before moving to the Argonne. Francois was seriously wounded on 20 July 1915 near St Menehould and died in hospital at Chanzy on 21 July. Francois' body was re-buried in his home town, post-war.
