Wehrmann Georg Braun, Kgl Bay 1, Landwehr Inf-Regt, 7 Komp.
A farmer from Hetzmannsdorf, Bavaria, Georg was recalled to service in late 1914. In March 1915, he saw service in Alsace when he was thrust into action during the First Battle of Munster - a battle for which he was awarded the Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with Swords. Remaining on this front in the aftermath of the battle, Georg was caught up in his second battle - the Second Battle of Munster - which was launched on 20 July 1915. Fighting desperately in the hills of the Vosges against a strong French attack, Georg was killed on 22 July and he now lies buried in the German Military Cemetery at Hohrod (Block 2, grave 333).
