28 July 1918 Sgt William MacLeod

28 July 1918 Sgt William MacLeod3/6398 Sgt William MacLeod, 8th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders.

From the Isle of Lewis, William was a reservist at the outbreak of war (he had seen previous service in Egypt at the turn of the century). Re-called in August 1914 into the 3rd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders, he later transferred to the 8th Battalion for overseas service. William was killed in action at Buzancy during the taking of the town (15th and 34th Division) on 28 July 1918. Aged 42 at death, he now lies buried in Buzancy Military Cemetery.
