14 August 1914 Sdt Leon Gruel

14 August 1914 Sdt Leon GruelSdt Leon Gruel, 38e Regiment d'Infanterie.

Born at Roanne on 18 July 1893, Leon was engaged in his compulsory military service at the time of the outbreak of war. As part of the 25th Division, he was thrust almost immediately into action. Leon took part in the French invasion into German Alsace, but he was killed in action near Ancerviller (southern Vosges) on 14 August 1914. He has no known grave.
