R/9771 Pte Harry Rhodes, 2nd Bn KRRC.
Born in Burnley, Lancs, Harry enlisted into the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, in Manchester, in September 1914. He was transferred to the 2nd Battalion in France on 16 June 1915 and he took part in the Battle of Loos later that year. Harry transferred to the Somme in 1916, where he was involved in the earliest stages of the battle, but he was posted as missing during the ‘Battle of Pozieres' on 20 August 1916. Having no known grave, Harry is thus commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.
