29 August 1917 Pte Redgal Ernest Pinkney

29 August 1917 Pte Redgal Ernest Pinkney1024127 Pte Redgal Ernest Pinkney, 75th Bn CEF.

Born in Yorkshire on 27 June 1885, Redgal emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1889 where he was later employed as a florist in Brampton, Ontario. He enlisted into the army in Toronto on 15 June 1916 and he was sent to England in April 1917. Redgal was sent to France in June 1917, and he was transferred to the 75th Bn CEF. He was killed in action during an operation to destroy a German machine gun position near Mill Hill Road (Lens sector) on 29 August 1917. Redgal's body was never recovered and, so, he is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
