12 September 1916 Pte ‘Rob' Roy Airth

12 September 1916 Pte ‘Rob' Roy Airth59004 Pte ‘Rob' Roy Airth, 21st Bn CEF.

Born at Renfrew, Ontario on 16 January 1896, Roy was a plumber in his civilian life. He enlisted into the army on 7 November 1914 and was part of the second Canadian contingent. He spent some time in Scotland thence, by October 1915, moving to the frontline in France where he was to serve in Flanders and the Somme. Roy was badly wounded by shellfire whilst in reserve near the brickfields at Albert on 12 September 1916 and he died soon afterwards. He is now buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Contalmaison.
