27 September 1914 Sdt Karel Joseph de Boeck

27 September 1914 Sdt Karel Joseph de BoeckSdt Karel Joseph de Boeck, 2e Jagers te Voet (Belgian Army).

Born at St Pieters Kapelle on 17 February 1892, Karel was a serving soldier (garrisoned at Bergen) at the outbreak of war. Sent to Gete on 3 August 1914, he first saw action on 16 August at Jodoigne before taking part in the fighting at Antwerp and Eppegem later that month and into September. Karel was killed in action at Opwijk on 27 September 1914 and buried locally. His remains were transferred post-war, however, to the Belgian Military Cemetery at Willebroek where he rests to this day.
