416163 Pte Alexandre Deslauriers, 22eme Bn CEF.
Born in Hull, Canada on 24 January 1890, Alexandre was a labourer in his civilian life. At the time of his enlistment, he was also a member of the active militia in Hull (70th Regiment). Enlisting at Hull on 20 January 1915, Alexandre initially joined the 41st Battalion, before being transferred to the 22nd CEF upon a move overseas to the UK in May 1915. He arrived in France in September 1915. Alexandre saw service around Ypres (and took part in the fighting at Mont Sorrel in June 1916) before moving to the Somme in July 1916 where he saw action during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette in September. On 30 September 1916 he was killed in action just north of Courcelette on a day mentioned in the diary as being spent on ‘reconnaissance work', ‘Patrols' and ‘work on trenches' (enemy artillery is also reported as being active). Alexandre is now buried in Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension.
