899 Sdt (Marsouin) Etienne Demichelle, 5e Regiment d'Infanterie Coloniale.
Born at Roanne, Loire on 5 July 1888, Etienne was still resident in the town (at 91, rue Hoche) at the time of his enlistment. After completing his compulsory military service in 1911, he was an active army reservist at the time of the outbreak of war. As a result, he was recalled to service in the very earliest days. Etienne saw action in the Vosges, in the Argonne and the Champagne, and he was wounded near Souain in November 1915. He died in Auxiliary Hospital number 201 (near Laon) on 14 November. Etienne is now buried in the Necropole Nationale of ‘La Doua' at Villeurbanne, Rhone.
