1185 Sdt 2e Cl Philibert Melay, 157e RI.
Philibert was born in Roanne on 16 February 1881 and he lived at 44 Rue de Clermont, Roanne. He had seen out his compulsory military service by 1905, after which he was transferred to the active army reserve. He was recalled to service in August 1914. Philibert saw action in Alsace and the Woevre before transferring to Belgium in November 1914 where he was in action at the end of the First Battle of Ypres in the vicinity of Boesinge and St Eloi. He was killed in action near the Hollebeke canal on 22 November 1914. Philibert has no known grave.
