A saddlemaker from Tell City in Perry County, USA, Clyde was born on 3 May 1898. He was drafted into service at Cincinnati, Ohio on 27 July 1918 and trained at Camp Jackson where he was assigned to the 308th Field Artillery. Sent to France in October 1918, Oliver died of pneumonia just over a month after arrival. His body was repatriated for burial.
