Born on 13 September 1884, Philbert was a recalled reservist upon the outbreak of war. He had served in the early actions in Lorraine before moving to Alsacien front in December 1914 where he was killed in action on Christmas Day 1914 (during what the Germans termed the ‘Wienachtschlacht') at Aspach, Vosges. He was one of 113 killed and missing from his regiment during the period 24-26 December 1914. Philibert has no known grave.
