10 January 1918 Gnr William Mee Topley

10 January 1918 Gnr William Mee Topley153538 Gnr William Mee Topley, 133 SB RGA.

Born at Cockerham, Lancashire, William was a grocery manager at Lancaster prior to enlistment. Enlisting in April 1917, he served in France from the end of July 1917 but was severely wounded in the ankle on 8 December 1917 which necessitated the amputation of his left foot in hospital at Rouen. Whilst recovering, William contracted diptheria and died on 10 January 1918. He is buried in St Sever Cemetery extension, Rouen.
