Pvt William Festus Aloan, Co C, 20th Engineer Regt, US Army.
Born in Redfield, Oswego Cty, New York on 14 September 1888, William was mustered for service at Rome, NY, on 28 September 1917. Whilst in training at Camp Dix, he became sick with measles but recovered before Christmas 1917 and resumed training. He embarked for France on 4 January 1918 but fell ill once again, this time developing lobar pneumonia, and he died in the sick-berth of his transport ship on 11 January 1918. William's body was repatriated to the USA on the ship's return journey and, on 21 February 1918, he was buried in Osceola Cemetery, New York.
