15997 Pte Denis Joseph Nixon, 2nd Bn Dorsetshire Regt.
Born in Bacup, Lancashire, Denis was resident in Barnoldswick, where he was employed as a plasterer's labourer, at the time of his enlistment. Enlisting at Keighley in the spring of 1915, Denis initially joined the Devonshire Regiment, but he was transferred to the Dorsets prior to embarkation for Mesopotamia in December 1915. Denis was killed in action near Kut-el-Amara on 22 April 1916, his name now appears on the Basra Memorial.
