23 April 1915 Pte Frederick Alfred French

23 April 1915 Pte Frederick Alfred French11479 Pte Frederick Alfred French, 4th Bn CEF.

From Colchester, England, Fred was born on 12 July 1890. After emigrating to Canada, he became a labourer in Ontario. He enlisted into the CEF at Valcartier on 22 September 1914. Sent to the UK for training soon afterwards, Fred was posted to the Western Front in February 1915 and was one of 506 casualties from his battalion on the Pilkem Ridge on 23 April 1915. Having no known grave, Fred is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres.
