128/3644 Onderluitenant Raoul Constant Tombeur, 4e Regt. Jagers te Voet
Born at Gent, East Flanders on 12 November 1888, Raoul was living at Liège at the time of the outbreak of war.
An officer in the reserve, he was mobilised into the 1er Regt on 1 August 1914 and moved to Charleroi to transfer to the 4e Regiment before returning to take part in the defence of his town of residence then falling back towards Antwerp and partaking in action there also.
Following Antwerp, Raoul then fought in the Battle of the Yser before remaining on this front for the remainder of his war.
On 21 March 1916, he was shot in the chest and seriously wounded.
Evacuated to the ‘L’Ocean’ field hospital at de Panne, he died there later on the same day.
He was buried in the Belgian Military cemetery at Adinkerke, West Flanders.
21 March 1916 died of his wounds.
