Description

“Development of Fighting Capabilities in a Territorial battalion 1916-18” by Fraser Skirrow.

A lot has been written about the development of the skills of the BEF after the Somme but this is often at a high, Corps or Divisional, level. This presentation looks at the development of tactics, weapons, and organisation but at the level of a single battalion and sees how innovations were applied on the battlefield The story illustrates the growth of all arms co operation, the use of tanks, aircraft and artillery to support battalions, as well as how the specialist sections within individual platoons were used in action.

Fraser Skirrow is the author of "Massacre on the Marne" ( Pen and Sword), the history of the 2/5th Battalion West Yorks. He is a former TA officer and an amateur military historian working on the battalions in which members of his family fought.
