The Manchester Regiment 1914-18 Living History is fast becoming a very popular pastime in Britain. There are numerous groups around portraying men and women from every period in history. The Great War is a particularly poignant time to recreate. All of us are likely to have family that fought, and often died, between 1914-1918. From nearly every country in the world men went to war, it was the first truly global conflict. Not only that but it is widely accepted to have been the first proper industrial war, where the artillery and machine guns ruled the battlefield.

The “Old Contemptibles” Great War Living History Society The “Old Contemptibles” Great War Living History Group are not a re-enactment society that ‘plays’ at being soldiers. The Group has been formed by several “independent” Great War Living Historians who have not wanted to join a “single regiment” group due to their specialised nature or simply the will to portray something that means more to them regimentaly. Some of our members are also members of other Great War Groups but are able to badge as the regiment of their choice as a member of our group.

The Great War Society The Great War Society is a non profit making organisation based in the UK. Founded in 1984 we provide an opportunity for practical research into the uniforms, weapons, equipment, training and everyday tasks of Great War soldiers, both of the Allied, and Central powers.
Our members dress in period uniforms and equipment, learn the drill, and undertake the training and everyday activities of the time. We are a living history, rather than a battle re-enactment group.
