Our Thirty-first Year of the WFA Remembering the First World War

WFA remembering the First World War

Welcome to The Western Front Association: remembering the First World War of 1914-18

On 11 November 2011 all members of the WFA celebrated our thirty-first anniversary. During these thirty-one years, the WFA has a proud record of remembering The First World War and those of all nations who fought and those who died in the years 1914-18. As we enter our thirty-first year, did you know, for example:

  • the WFA publishes two excellent journals: Stand To! and the Bulletin?
  • the WFA organises the Annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph on 11 November*?
  • the WFA was instrumental in restoring the "Two Minutes Silence" at 11 am on 11 November each year?
  • the WFA preserved the First World War Medal Index Cards from destruction?
  • the WFA has 6,000 members in branches and affiliated organisations throughout the world?
  • the WFA has digitised the First World War maps in collaboration with the Imperial War Museum and made them available on DVDs?
  • the WFA's London Branch commemorates each year the arrival of The Unknown Warrior at Victoria Station on 10 November 1920?
  • the WFA's Yorkshire Branch awards a prize each year for the best MA dissertation from the Centre for First World War Studies?

These are just some examples of the work of our Association.

Applications for membership are warmly welcomed from anyone with an interest in the Great War.

If you would like to learn more, please look through our website. If there is any information on joining you cannot find here, please contact the Membership Office.
