In this talk, the question will be posed: “Was Lord Kitchener justified in ignoring the Territorial Force when he raised the New Armies in August 1914?”

After tracing reasons why the Territorial Force was raised in April 1908, and the response of the various interested groups over the following years, Malcolm will turn to Lord Kitchener’s answer to the problem of reinforcement and recruitment beginning on Sunday 2 August 1914.

Both members and non-members welcome.
