Description

Speaker: Tim Lynch

In May 1940, Major General Harry Curtis ‘more gallantly than advisedly’ offered the services of his 46th (North Midland) Division to the battle raging for France. The division, a hastily formed and barely trained territorial unit had been sent to France as one of three similar ‘digging divisions’ to complete their training and act as lines of communication troops far from the battlezone. Without heavy weapons, communications or support, these men suddenly found themselves the front line against the might of the German onslaught. ‘Whereabouts unknown’ is the story of the battle through the experiences of four battalions of Yorkshiremen who, between them, would experience not just the nightmare of Dunkirk, but also the battles that would go on long after the last of the legendary little ships had returned home.
