Price Per Person: £500.00 - (£90.00 Single Supplement)

Hotel: De Vrede Hotel, Dixsmuide

This year's Chairman's Tour focusses on the Loos sector alongside a day studying the Zeebrugge Raids and "Operation Strandfest". German historian Dr Jack Sheldon will be assisted by Clive Harris as in previous years with Dixsmuide our popular tour base at the Hotel De Vrede

Tour itinerary

The tour will start at Ebbsfleet International Station that offers superb convenient links from London rail hubs and in addition offers secure parking at a reasonable rate. Transport via an executive standard coach and return Channel crossing are also included throughout. The tour is limited to 25 spaces to ensure quality and make this tour feel like a personal pilgrimage as opposed to a large coach group. Personal visits to relatives or people of interest to you are positively encouraged and will be incorporated into the tour itinerary; whilst these will be reflected as the group fills up, a preliminary itinerary is planned as follows:

Day 1

Pick up in Ebbsfleet & Dover (first pick up around 10:30 hours) and onward transfer to Dixsmuide, stop at Nieuport & the memorial to consider Operation Strandfest in 1917.

Day 2

Full day study of the Loos Battlefield in its centenary year including the French struggle for the Notre Dame de Lorette spur in the morning and the British offensive at Loos in September 1915, we end with a visit to the splendid Loos Museum & a trip up the Double Crassier. The evening will see WFA participation in the Menin Gate Last Post service.

Day 3

Full days study of the St George's Day Raid at Zeebrugge where Clive & Jack will provide the detail of the day from both British & German perspectives, the HMS Vindictive site will also be visited along with a number of isolated cemeteries and memorials in the vicinity

Day 4

Morning free in Ypres before heading back to the UK, during this time a number of personal cemetery visits in the Ypres Salient are possible

As with previous Chairman's tours this is your tour so we would encourage personal visits across the Aisne area, to enable us to accommodate these into the itinerary please do get in touch.
